Following prolonged delays and the contractor’s failure to meet agreed performance standards for the Doguwa five-kilometre road project, the Kano State Government has revoked the contract.
An inspection tour by engineers from the Kano State Ministry for Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation, led by the commissioner, Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, revealed dissatisfaction with the pace, quality and overall standard of work at the site, prompting the decision to terminate the contract.
The commissioner, who spoke during the inspection, explained that the ministry had previously issued multiple warnings to the contractor, directing the firm to accelerate work and comply with the project timeline and specifications.
He noted, “Despite repeated directives and monitoring visits, the contractor failed to demonstrate meaningful progress, compelling the government to terminate the agreement.”
Sumaila further stated that the revocation was necessary to protect the public interest and ensure accountability, transparency and value for money in the execution of infrastructure projects.
He assured that the administration remained committed to enforcing contractual standards and safeguarding public funds.
Sagiru Ado Abubakar, information officer with the ministry, confirmed the development in a statement signed and made available to the press in Kano, adding that the government remains determined to ensure the eventual completion of the road project to improve connectivity and benefit residents of Doguwa and surrounding communities.
