JANNIK SINNER has one burning ambition left to complete this year – to obtain his motorbike licence.

On the court, the Italian passes most tests that come his way and defended his title on Sunday with a four-sets victory over German Alex Zverev on Centre Court.

Yet the petrolhead – he has a Ferrari and Porsche in the garage – simply cannot get through any rigorous examinations on two wheels.

Though he is often spotted going for a ride on a Vespa in Monaco with glam girlfriend Laila Hasanovic, he cannot buy a more powerful motorcycle on the roads.

Sinner, 24, said: “I’ve failed it four times. Before I came here I failed it once again. Maybe next year you can ask me the same question.”

Speed of thought and speed of reaction were the hallmark of his title defence as he managed to return the 139mph aces that Zverev produced.

It is his fifth Slam victory in three seasons and he will head to the US Open in New York next month with renewed confidence, especially if world No.3 is sidelined with a wrist issue.

Ultra professional, Sinner does not drink alcohol during the season, often going instead for shots of ginger, blueberry and orange.

But he allowed himself a glass of champagne and felt “tipsy” when he did his dance with Linda Noskova, the Wimbledon women’s winner, at the Champions’ Ball.

The boogying took place at 1.18am on Monday morning at an exclusive Central London hotel, which followed a three-course meal.

Sinner – whose mum was put through an emotional wringer as he claimed the King of Grass crown – said: “It was an amazing final once again.

“I do dedicate my whole life to be the best possible version of myself and for moments like this. We have a lot of pressure.

“We have external problems sometimes but at the end of the day we always need to show up at the court and we need to perform in the best possible way.

“Not every tournament goes our way, but in the same time, for sure, the percentage is higher if you do many things in the right way. So I would say that’s the main key.

“Of course sometimes you need some luck as well. This was also a lucky day for me because I can say it could have gone different ways.

“I’m a bit tipsy now. So I’ll try to talk very simple with the right words.”

Coach Darren Cahill paid tribute to Sinner for how he dealt with one of the hottest Wimbledons ever, especially as last month he wilted in a French Open on-court furnace.

The Australian, 60, said: “You can probably even see during the matches he leaves the court now after a couple of sets.

“He goes and changes, walks into the air-conditioning, changes his shirt, even if he doesn’t have to.

“He’s getting in a routine on the warmer days to make sure he’s doing everything possible. So he can play at a top level on those super, super hot days.

“Look, he’s a redhead that lives in the north of Italy, that grew up in the snow and the Alps. Hot weather is a little bit different for him than it is for most people.

“The more time he spends in the heat, the better he’s going to be at it.

“It was one of the hottest Wimbledons on record. He managed through that incredibly well.

“We might even make some changes to the pre-season, chasing the sun a little bit more, getting him more acclimatised to playing in these types of condition. He did amazingly well these entire two weeks.”
