The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement for the North Central has urged Nigerians and religious groups in Kwara and Kogi states to stop holding “Ori Oke” prayer meetings in forests and on mountains due to increasing security concerns.
The office said places like these are increasingly being used by bandits and other criminals as hideouts.
It warned that continued gatherings in such locations could put worshippers at risk.
A statement by Tinubu’s SSA on Community Engagement, North Central, Abiodun Essiet, suggested that residents should temporarily suspend the meetings until the security situation improves.
“The Office of the SSA to the President on Community Engagement, North Central, has appealed to residents and religious groups in Kwara and Kogi states to temporarily suspend Ori Oke prayer gatherings until the security situation in the affected areas stabilises,” the statement read.
The office emphasised that people can worship God anywhere, adding that forests and mountains have become locations where criminal groups are increasingly active.
“People were also asked to cooperate with security agencies that are making significant efforts to maintain peace, protect lives, and ensure safety in communities across the North Central region,” it added.
