The Kebbi State Government has conducted an interfaith prayer session to seek divine assistance in addressing the security challenges confronting the state and the nation.
The event, held in Birnin Kebbi, united Muslims and Christians from various regions of the state to pray for peace, unity, and progress.
Governor Nasir Idris, who addressed attendees during the event, emphasized the significance of prayer in fostering peace and harmony. He reminded citizens that security is a collective responsibility and should not be politicized.
“It is unrealistic to expect any state to be entirely free from security issues. Security must be regarded as a shared responsibility, not a political instrument,” he stated.
The governor refuted allegations that Kebbi is experiencing religious strife, asserting that both Muslims and Christians continue to coexist peacefully.
“Claims suggesting that Kebbi or Nigeria is devoid of peace, or that there is discord between Muslims and Christians, are unfounded. Today, we stand united, Muslims and Christians alike, seeking divine support to overcome our security challenges,” he added.
The prayer session, organized by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, included Quranic recitations and special prayers led by Sheikh Abubakar Riba, Chairman of the State Council of Ulamas, and Rev. Femi Orofin, Vice Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
Notable attendees at the event included the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; former Governor Sa’idu Dakingari; and APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Sulaiman Argungu.
