A former presidential candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sam Ohuabunwa, has stated that the resignation of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has left many politicians feeling disheartened.

Ohuabunwa expressed this opinion on Tuesday during an interview on 'Prime Time', a program aired on Arise Television.

His comments followed Yakubu's resignation, after which May Agbamuche was appointed to serve in an acting capacity.

“Prof. Yakubu’s resignation is welcome news; he has left many politicians feeling disappointed.

“He let us down, particularly during the 2023 elections. He raised our expectations, making us believe we could trust the election results, only to falter at a crucial moment.

“Whether this was accidental, coincidental, or intentional, history will ultimately determine that, but he has certainly left us with a sense of disappointment.

“We should reach a point where we no longer need to question the legitimacy of our president or even our governors after they win elections,” he remarked.
