The Director of News at Arise News, Sumner Sambo, has advised the presidency to take its time in appointing a new chairman for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Sambo shared his insights on Tuesday while appearing on 'Prime Time', a program aired on Arise Television.
His remarks came just a day after the resignation of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as chairman of the electoral body, who has since handed over the responsibilities to May Agbamuche in an acting capacity.
“The resignations of Mahmood and Jega as INEC chairmen should provide us the opportunity to carefully consider who will be the next chairman,” he stated.
“The presidency should avoid rushing into a decision regarding their choice without ensuring that necessary institutional reforms are implemented,” he added.
Sambo also refuted the allegation that the president instructed Yakubu to resign, emphasizing that the president does not possess the authority to make such a demand.
