INEC Sees Surge with 2.3 Million New Voter Registrations, Led by Osun, Imo, and Kano!

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Sunday that 2,316,232 Nigerians have registered to vote across the country, with significant differences among the states. Osun recorded the highest number of new registrations.

INEC stated that “registration is suspended in Anambra State until after the governorship election on 8th November 2025, in accordance with Section 9 (6) of the Electoral Act 2022,” resulting in the absence of figures for the state in the latest update.

The reported figures include both online and physical registrations completed during Week 12 of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which commenced on August 18, 2025, and is set to conclude in August 2026.

According to the commission, Osun topped the list with 185,089 new registrants, followed by Imo with 143,386 and Kano with 132,290. Sokoto had 123,320; Lagos, 109,693; the Federal Capital Territory, 106,855; and Borno, 106,376.

Other significant numbers include Kogi with 91,573, Jigawa with 88,209, Zamfara with 84,268, Katsina with 80,425, Kaduna with 78,282, Kebbi with 74,159, Delta with 72,311, and Ogun with 71,091. Niger reported 69,739, Akwa Ibom 65,446, and Oyo 64,561.

Rivers registered 57,251, Benue 42,557, Bayelsa 38,627, and Bauchi 36,166. Ekiti, Gombe, and Nasarawa recorded 32,096, 31,542, and 30,348 respectively, while Ebonyi, Edo, and Plateau reported 28,310, 27,130, and 24,077. Taraba had 17,803; Enugu, 16,304; Ondo, 16,012; Cross River, 14,559; and Abia, 12,297.

INEC noted that registration numbers have remained consistently high in South-West states, especially Osun and Lagos, while northern states are witnessing increased participation due to enhanced voter mobilization efforts by local authorities, religious leaders, and community organizations.
