At least two people have been confirmed dead and several others injured following a renewed clash between farmers and Fulani herders in Bandawa village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the conflict began on May 11 after 34-year-old Buhari Malam was reportedly macheted by suspected herders while working on his farm.

He later died from his injuries at the Bandawa Primary Health Care Centre.

The killing triggered a reprisal by angry youths in the community, resulting in the slaughter of five cows and injuries to seven others.

The violence escalated the following day, May 12, when another farmer, Ishaku Tunde, was attacked and left with multiple machete wounds. Hours later, Dauda Bawa was fatally attacked while traveling from Bandawa to Karim Lamido.

Local security sources confirmed that a Fulani leader, Ardo Baka, reported six herders missing amid the unrest. In response, a joint task force comprising the military, police, vigilantes, and local hunters has been deployed, and community peace talks are underway.

Meanwhile, in Plateau State, armed bandits launched an assault on Dogon Ruwa village in Wase Local Government Area on May 12, killing a resident and abducting two others.

The attackers, riding motorcycles, shot and killed Alhaji Saini Haruna before kidnapping Alhaji Maikasuwa and Muhammadu Snu. A rapid response force, including the military, police, and DSS, was deployed to the area following the attack.

The deceased was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites after the family declined an autopsy. Security agencies have launched an investigation and are working to rescue the abducted victims and apprehend the culprits.
