Taraba deputy gov returns to Nigeria after months of absence

Published on May 04, 2025 at 02:43 PM

After a prolonged absence, the Deputy Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Aminu Alkali, has returned to Jalingo, the state capital.

His return comes about four months after he quietly left the public eye due to an undisclosed health condition.

Alkali arrived at the Danbaba Suntai Airport around 1:40pm on Sunday in a chartered aircraft.

However, his return was low-key, as journalists were not notified and no official reception was held at the airport.

Sources close to the Deputy Governor’s office said he was first flown to Abuja for medical attention and later transferred to Egypt for further treatment.

“We only heard of his return after he was already back in Jalingo. No one gave prior notice,”; a reporter attached to his office said.

The absence of a press secretary in the Deputy Governor’s team reportedly contributed to the lack of official information.

However, Mr Emmanuel Bello, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Digital Communications, confirmed Alkali’s return without offering further details.

The Deputy Governor’s extended absence had sparked speculation in political circles, though no official updates were provided during his time away.

His current health status and future public engagements remain unclear as of press time.
