Selfish ambition, not national interest, drives political coalitions — Baba-Ahmed

Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former aide to Vice President Kashim Shettima, has criticized ongoing political alliances and movements, saying they are driven purely by selfish interests rather than any real desire to improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

In a Facebook post, Baba-Ahmed expressed frustration with the current political landscape, claiming that most politicians are only acting in their own interest.

According to him: “All the jumping around by these politicians is pointless. After they finish gathering in one corner or trying to patch together remnants from what they’ve destroyed, they’ll realise they’re all the same.”;;

He argued that these political coalitions offer no real hope for change, as the players involved share the same motivations and approach to governance.

“There is no plan to reclaim the rights of the people or secure a better future for the country,”;; he added.

Baba-Ahmed specifically highlighted the suffering of the average citizen, particularly in Northern Nigeria, pointing out that what people want now is not political drama, but real solutions.

“The ordinary Nigerian is tired. Right now, what he needs is not to follow a politician, but to have security and food,”;; he wrote.

Emphasizing the growing political awareness among the masses, he warned that the neglected citizens, especially the poor, could rise to take back power during the 2027 general elections.

“No matter your money, food, or influence, it’s not you who will vote. The poor person you’ve turned your back on will vote. And he is fed up.”;;

He concluded with a warning and a call for genuine reform:

“The side that’s losing strength has serious work ahead. Either they pursue meaningful and effective change or the people will show them the way. The Northern poor, whom they’ve long underestimated, may take the lead in reclaiming their freedom.”;;
