Rivers crisis: My spirit has left there – Fubara not eager to return to office

Published on May 12, 2025 at 04:43 AM

Suspended governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has insisted he is not desperate to return to office.

Fubara made this remark while speaking at the service of songs held in honour of the late elder statesman, Edwin Clark, in Port Harcourt, on Sunday.

“Can’t you see how better I look? Do you think I am interested in it?

“Do you even know if I want to go back there? My spirit had already left that place long ago,”;; he said.

Fubara is believed to have been responding to several speakers at the event, who referred to him as “Governor”;; and called for immediate reversal.

“Not everything is by Oshogbe, I want everybody to focus, there are some fights you don’t fight,”;; he said.

Fubara was also said to have urged the attendees to focus on the tribute of Edwin Clark who lived a selfless life advocating for the Niger Delta region and not make it about politics.

President Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly after he declared a state of emergency.

Tinubu then appointed a retired naval chief, Ibok-Ete Ibas, as the sole administrator of the oil-rich state.
