Ogun State Commissioner for Transportation, Olugbenga Dairo, has urged members of the Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria, MOUN, Ogun State Chapter, to embrace a corporate transport system and prioritise passengers’ safety.
The Commissioner made the call while addressing the union executives who paid a courtesy visit to his office in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
Dairo emphasised that passengers’ safety should be prioritised by transport union members, with reasonable fare structures that would promote mutual respect and cordiality among stakeholders.
He noted that the State’s transportation system, under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun, was undergoing a transformation aimed at replacing outdated practices with a more efficient, accessible and secured system.
The commissioner reiterated that the government only engages with contractual organisations that possess corporate identity, adequate capacity and trained manpower, in order to qualify for revenue collection for the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service.
In his response, State Chairman of the Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria, Comrade Salaudeen Amoo, appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun for creating an enabling environment for the union to thrive.
He expressed the union’s willingness to collaborate with the State Government in boosting revenue generation, pledging to enhance members’ capacity-building efforts and ensure a smooth transition to a corporate transport model in alignment with the state’s transportation reform policy.
