Plateau Killings: Police arrest more suspects, recover illegal arms in fresh raids

Published on May 05, 2025 at 03:48 PM

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of three additional suspects connected to the recent wave of killings in Plateau State, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks fueling unrest in the region.

According to a press release issued on Monday, and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) carried out a series of successful operations targeting gunrunners and criminal conspirators in Plateau State.

The statement revealed that on May 3, 2025, at about 4:30 PM, IRT operatives, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended one Abubakar Jibrin from Kalone Community in Shendam Local Government Area.

He was found in unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.

Following his arrest, Jibrin confessed to the location of an SMG rifle with an empty magazine hidden in his residence.

In a related operation the following day, May 4, 2025, police operatives recovered two fabricated revolver rifles during a sweep in Barkin Ladi.

The firearms were traced to ammunition linked to a suspect identified as Ismail Danjuma, who is now in custody and assisting investigators.

“These recent operations demonstrate the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to diligently ensuring every person complicit in these condemnable killings is brought to justice and made to face the full wrath of the law,”; the statement read.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, commended the success of the operations and urged residents in Plateau State and across the country to remain calm and support law enforcement efforts.

“We urge members of the public to maintain calmness, continue providing crucial information and unalloyed support that can aid efforts of the NPF in restoring peace in these disturbed areas and other parts of the country,”; IGP Egbetokun appealed.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring peace and stability in the troubled North-Central region, where communities have been grappling with recurring violence.
