The writer of tvN’s upcoming drama “Our Unwritten Seoul”; has opened up about its story and cast!
“Our Unwritten Seoul”; is a romantic drama about identical twin sisters Yoo Mi Ji and Yoo Mi Rae (both played by Park Bo Young), who lead completely different lives. After switching identities through a web of lies, they embark on a journey to discover real love and the true meaning of life.
Writer Lee Kang, who received acclaim for her emotionally resonant storytelling in “Youth of May,”; is returnng with her first project in four years, generating considerable buzz. She shared, “I’ve been writing ‘Our Unwritten Seoul’ steadily, like a letter or a diary, in the hope of reconnecting with viewers. Now it’s finally ready to air.”;
Lee Kang explained that she wanted “Our Unwritten Seoul”; to explore “people who seem fine on the outside, but are already shaken and worn out inside.”; She continued, “I imagined a twin who looked just like me taking my place, and suddenly I wondered—would that twin’s life be any more peaceful than mine?”;
Lee Kang added, “Everyone feels like their own life is the hardest. But I started this story with the idea that we’re actually all fighting our own battles.”; She also reflected on a deeper theme: “Self-hatred—when we criticize ourselves with thoughts and words we wouldn’t even say to others—has been my longest struggle and is still something I haven’t fully overcome. I wrote this drama hoping both the characters and the viewers might learn to be a little kinder to themselves.”;
Regarding the drama’s main settings, Seoul and the village of Duson, Lee Kang said, “I wanted to move beyond the cliché of a cold city versus a relaxed hometown. Instead, I aimed to depict these places as they appear differently in each character’s heart. In our drama, Seoul and the village of Duson will be seen through the eyes of Yoo Mi Ji and Yoo Mi Rae.”;
“Our Unwritten Seoul”; is also attracting attention due to Park Bo Young’s difficult challenge of playing four distinct roles. She leads a refreshing cast lineup that includes GOT7’s Jinyoung as Lee Ho Su and Ryu Kyung Soo as Han Se Jin.
Lee Kang recalled, “I was thrilled when I first heard the casting news, but actually meeting the actors felt like coming face to face with the characters I had written. It was surreal and exhilarating.”;
She added, “Every time I watch the actors bring the characters to life on set or on screen, they feel more vivid and defined than they did on the page. I was amazed by how deeply the actors understand these roles—sometimes even more than I do, and I’m the one who wrote them. The unique lovable charm displayed by each of the three actors will absolutely resonate with viewers.”;
