Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has approved a new salary scale for Abia health workers, known as Abia State Health Workers Salary Scale (ASHWOSS) with effect from May 1st, 2025.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Enoch Ogbonnaya announced this on Wednesday, saying that ASWOSS is at par with the federal salary structure for health workers.
Ogbonnaya said that doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, optometrists, physiotherapists, medical laboratory scientists and radiographers will benefit from the new salary scale.
He also said that the governor approved the employment of 771 health workers comprising doctors, nurses, pharmacists, medical lab scientists, physiotherapists , radiographers and other categories of healthcare practitioners.
According to him, the number was based on the result of a needs assessment carried out across the health facilities and agencies of the Ministry of Health, adding that funds to cover the emolument of the 771 new medical staff have been approved by Governor Otti.
