Ogun Govt seals food company over environmental infractions

Published on April 30, 2025 at 02:58 PM

The Ogun State government has sealed off a cashew nut processing company, Akhibi Food Limited located at Arifanla, Akute in the Ifo LGA over environmental infractions.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Protection Agency, Farouk Akintunde, made this known to newsmen on Wednesday.

Akintunde, who doubles as the Chairman, Ogun State Task Force on Environment, Compliance and Enforcement, disclosed that the company was shut down following a petition received from the host community, alleging air pollution emitting from their operations.

The special adviser explained that the agency was compelled to seal the company after its management failed to honour the state government’s invitation to address the issue.

Akintunde, while reiterating the Governor Dapo Abiodun administration’s readiness to ensure environmental compliance across industries operating in the state, enjoined all to comply with the state environmental laws, as sanctions will be imposed on any defaulters.

Reacting, Medical Director, Cornerstone Hospital, Dr. Temitope Mathew, situated opposite the company, appreciated the state government for its timely intervention, appealing to the company to do the needful by putting standard structures in place that would be environmental friendly.
