In a new political development, all three Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, senators representing Osun State have reportedly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as their sole candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced in a joint statement issued in Abuja by Senator Kamarudeen Lere Oyewumi (Osun West), Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central), and Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi (Osun East).
The senators who declared their support for Tinubu under the umbrella of the Osun State Senators’ Caucus of the PDP, praised his infrastructural and economic achievements.
According to their statement, Tinubu’s policies have yielded “tangible benefits, a significant reduction in food prices and improvements in national security.’
“This overwhelming endorsement goes beyond mere symbolism; it is a clear reflection of genuine confidence and satisfaction with President Tinubu’s delivery of democratic dividends,”;; the senators said.
Reacting to the development, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and a gubernatorial aspirant in Osun, commended the PDP senators for their stance.
Speaking through the Senator Ajibola Basiru Campaign Organisation, SABCO, in a statement issued by Professor Remi Ajala in Osogbo on Wednesday, Basiru described the senators’ move as an act of truthfulness and statesmanship and urged them to take the next step by officially joining the APC.
“We appreciate that these senators have acknowledged the Renewed Hope Agenda and how it is beginning to positively impact their constituencies,”;; the statement read.
Basiru urged the lawmakers not to stop at endorsement, but to fully align themselves with the APC to cement their commitment to Tinubu’s leadership.
“Pitching your tent with the APC will help bring the needed development to Osun APC-led state government when inaugurated in 2026,”;; he said.
The campaign organisation noted that their alignment would ensure Osun State benefits maximally from the President’s vision for national development.
It further stressed the importance of political synergy between federal lawmakers and the state government to accelerate growth in sectors such as infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
“We call on the three Osun PDP senators to display courage and show real leadership by joining forces with progressive elements,”;; Basiru added.
He also encouraged them to emulate other National Assembly members who have defected from their original parties to the APC.
According to him, full integration into the ruling party would not only validate their endorsement but also position their constituencies for greater federal support.
