Published on May 01, 2025 at 08:29 PM

Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has announced plans to transition the state’s transportation system from tricycles and motorcycles to electric cars.

Speaking at the 2025 International Labour Day celebration, Bago revealed a partnership with a Chinese firm to establish an electric car assembly plant in Niger State.

He noted that the initiative aims to make car ownership more accessible to civil servants at subsidised rates.

According to him, “Niger State Government is working with some Chinese investors who will establish electric vehicle assembly plants here in Niger State. And as such, civil servants and workers will begin to have their own cars at subsidised rates so that they can own cars.”;

The governor also disclosed that the state government has taken over federal infrastructure and roads to reconstruct and improve them for the benefit of the people of the state.

Additionally, he said the government plans to build 10,000 housing units for civil servants through the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme and revamp the water system to provide piped water across Niger State. Free internet access will also be provided in schools and government premises.

“We will do everything within our powers to make life very comfortable for all workers in Niger State,”; he stated.
