IT’S the biggest night in fashion attended by the world’s most glamorous A-listers.
But, according to insiders, the drama behind the scenes of the Met Gala is even more outrageous than some of the headline grabbing outfits – and they claim it has long been hidden under the red carpet by event bosses.
Now our “Met mole”; – who is very closely connected to the Gala – has shed light on what really goes on – how cover ups are plotted for stars’ shocking antics and the down right disgusting moments behind closed doors.

Lifting the lid on ‘the lift’
Who can forget the now infamous altercation between and ‘s sister, Solange, at the 2014 Met Gala?
What you don’t know is that editor Anna Wintour secretly stepped in to help counsel the couple as video of livid Solange’s elevator attack leaked on TMZ, causing international headlines.
Anna was a “key voice”; in the stars making a joint statement to “take the sting out of the scandal.”;
The shocking drama blew up when , who she cornered in an elevator.
Footage showed Beyonce watching before intervening between the pair as tensions escalated.
After the video inside a lift at The Standard Hotel, dropped on May 13, it broke the internet and became a huge global story.
Anna was stunned – and not in a good way – by the incident happening at her event, but also by how the negative news overshadowed fashion’s biggest night of the year, and all her hard work.
It utterly put her nose out of joint and she had Jay and Solange effectively make apologies to her.
At the time with the family tensions, they were put aside to keep Anna happy. And her advice was something like “you guys must make this go away”; so do something, “own it and move on”;.
With all the controversy and speculation brewing over alleged cheating claims, it was a real distraction from the spirit of the Gala.
Look Beyonce, Solange and Jay Z are beholden to very few people on this planet, but Anna is a different matter.
When she wants to hear from someone, that call happens. It shows her power.
Beyonce, Jay Z and Solange later released a statement, which did cool down the scandal, but the three have never ever revealed why it really happened.
Beyonce attended the next two galas, but has not attended since 2016...
The popstar diva
One celebrated star, sadly no longer with us, spent more than thirty minutes locked inside a toilet cubicle in the 1990s taking . She threw her handbag down inside the stall, sending the contents scattering all over the floor.
She was then heard cursing as she scrambled to pick up her makeup and cocaine hidden in her lipstick container. People could then hear her snorting several times.
It was a big deal, given that this person had been anti-drugs for many years.
But many people just turned a blind eye as coke was just the thing people did back then on the high-end party scene.
Urgent medical treatment
Several famous faces have attempted to have their friends or assistants join them once the gala gets going, thinking they can sneak them in while all the organisers are inside enjoying the dinner.
There was one major face, who was telling guests at her table that her doctor needed to be “let in, because she felt so down and low...and the only way to get over it was her vitamins”; – but she was secretly trying to smuggle in her drugs.
When she approached security about having him come her way, realising it was not a medical emergency they told her that she had to leave and meet him outside .
After a lot of heated chat, she did leave and get whatever she needed from her ‘doctor’. Many of the guests at the table knew what was going on, given she has had a long history of class A drug use.
The event invite is clear: “you get a plus one”;, and if you’re lucky a publicist and stylist or designer will walk you along the carpet. But this is not a “free for all”;.
Sneaky toilet snaps
One VIP, famous as a modern big screen superhero, caused controversy in the bathrooms. The star asked for security to escort him in because he was so concerned about people’s behaviour in there.
The critically acclaimed actor felt on edge about hopping to the urinal, citing past dramas around his pee time. He said that he wanted guards to face away from him while he used the urinal to protect him from other guests “taking a peak at his package”;.
He also told organisers that he’s experienced several incidents where over excited female fans had shamelessly followed him into the men’s toilets to try to seduce him or even snap photos of him doing his business.
Organisers assured the A-lister that he did not need to worry about guests at the Gala acting like “groupies”; given that they were just as famous as him or had shelled out tens of thousands of dollars on tickets.
Nappy time
One huge actor took pride in telling his Hollywood pals that he wore an adult diaper to the gala because he knew he would spend several hours in his skintight costume and not be able to go to the bathroom.
The star gloated in telling guests that he had been practicing wearing it for weeks.
He then went around advocating for all celebs to wear diapers for long work days!
Iconic musician soiled himself after taking too many weight loss pills
A globally renowned , well known for his unusual antics, endured a terrible time with his stomach after taking too many weight loss pills in the run up to the big night.
He couldn’t reach the bathroom in time and suffered a very embarrassing accident. It was actually heartbreaking, because he was very humble and organisers were very saddened by his experience.
Thanks to some brilliant quick thinking and stylists coming to his aid, he had a replacement pair of trousers and underpants within an hour.
He was very grateful and the entire incident was kept out of the news. He has always maintained a deep respectful attitude towards the Met Gala team.
Award winning actress caught having phone sex with her boyfriend in the Gala toilets
Another famous female actress locked herself in a bathroom cubicle and phoned her boyfriend moaning about how she was really annoyed about having to go to the event.
She then spelled out to her lover how she was going to come home and satisfy him sexually – in a number of ways.
After the whole bathroom heard her she just laughed at everyone and said, “Hey it’s New York – you gotta get laid right?”;
Superstar diva antics
Tensions between organisers and an A-list performer was ‘insane’ and communication totally broke down over her diva demands and expectations.
At the centre of the stress was the stage set up and wanting to perform for longer. Some witnesses said she appeared to have some kind of high pressure anxiety while others just said she was very unhappy and a b***h.
One member of staff even told her “stop being a b***h”;, and told her “the Gala has been around a lot longer than f***ing you have – and will be around a lot longer after you.”;
Organisers felt her attitude was that I am the biggest star here, even though there were A listers, Oscar winners and in the room.
She didn’t fulfill her sound check and rehearsal spots fully because of her complaints raging over everything from the sound system to the layout of the room and the crowd being too close to her. There were a lot of negotiations throughout the final hours before the actual gala, where at one stage she told them “f*** them I am not doing it”;.
It got so heated that some staff claimed Anna, herself, and even Oprah went into the dressing room to calm her and convince her to perform. Her show was a knockout, but the stress caused by it all meant it took a few years before anyone got over it!
Troubled A-Lister and notorious bad boy tried to bring his armed entourage
And she wasn’t the only one causing everyone stress behind the scenes – one very famous entrepreneur and entertainer was told that he had an invitation “on the express rule that he could not bring his usual 20 man entourage, which he was famous for taking everywhere in NYC.”;
One of the senior executives warned the infamous A lister that if they came, his invitation would mean that “your security, PA and cousins would not get past the first entrance or metal detectors.”;
Initially the superstar threw an absolute fit saying that “New York is my f***ing town and I’ll do what I want”;. However after being told that the terms of the invite were non negotiable, he did come alone.
During preparation meetings about the drama, the reason that this star’s security were effectively banned from the premises was that they had seen them at several other events ‘openly waving around firearms and threatening event staff with violence’.
That behaviour was considered “deplorable and nothing that we expect from Met guests.”;

One unique entertainer caused a “real stink”; during his attendance at the dinner.
The musical talent’s stench of marijuana smoke was so potent that guests at his table complained about the intense smell saying he was getting higher every minute sitting at his table.
Everyone was staggered that the star himself could even function given the volume he appeared to have smoked.
That incident happened before 2021 when New York State legalised the adult-use of .
One of the weirdest experiences at the Gala came when diners who were trying to enjoy their lavish meal complained about a major name in the fashion industry who stank of ‘body odor and dog excrement’.
When the guest walked away from her chair, female guests were forced to spray their bottles of fragrance on his chair and around the area where he was sat.
The man himself was unaware of the upset and simply remarked something like “the ladies are really smelling beautiful tonight”; when he returned to his seat.
