May Day 2025: Gov Alia seeks support of Benue workers for re-election

Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia has urged workers in the state to work for his re-election in 2027 to continue to enjoy good dividends of democracy from his administration.

He acknowledged the positive role workers have played in sustaining the landmark achievements of his administration.

Alia made the call during the celebration of May Day held at the IBB Square in Makurdi .

He said his administration has been treating old infectious wounds inflicted on workers by past governments.

“We will continue to work hard to better the lots of workers and the masses.

“Though we recognize the fact that the inflation rate is high, there will be some cushioning effects.

“I am a partner and comrade with you to drive the workforce. My administration approved 75,000 as minimum wage and we are committed to do more. We will pay one month’s arrears this month

“We have reduced the long period for payment of gratuities. We have cleared 5 months of salary arrears including those of political appointees.

“We will ensure continued prompt payment of salaries, automation of the public services, training and retraining of workers as well as their promotion is a top priority.

“We have renovated the State secretariat and will continue to provide an enabling environment for workers to perform optimally”;.
