The former Minister of Information and leader of Timbuktoo Media Services, TMS, Mr Labaran Maku, has urged journalists to go further in reporting development strides rather than focusing on the political class.
He said focus on the provision of roads, schools, hospitals as well as basic amenities that benefit the less privileges and vulnerable should be given priorities in the media.
Mr Maku disclosed this on Thursday while addressing media practitioners at the Government House, Makurdi, Benue State.
He said democracy in the country is not working as it should; however noted that significant achievements have been made in the past twenty-six years, listing universities, roads, water projects and communication as some of the sectors that gained significant improvement.
He said democracy is better no matter what, and called on journalists to always focus their reports on social interventions such as training of youths, women’s empowerment, skills acquisition and other technical services which will enable people to be self-reliant.
In his remarks, the former Director General, National Orientation Agency, NOA, Dr Mike Omeri, said the team will tour the entire Benue State to ascertain that the Alia administration actually carried out projects in the past two years in office that are of value to the people of the state.
