ROSÉ season is upon us.
This vino is like the fun, flirty cousin of red and white wines made from red grapes – but instead of spending a long time soaking up the colour and tannins from the skins like a , it takes a quick dip.
That quick dip is enough to get that gorgeous pink, and often pale, hue we all know and love in our rosé wine.
You don’t need to spend an arm and a leg for a delectable bottle either, says the Affordable Wine Hunter, real name .
In fact, the libation connoisseur is a huge fan of ’s current range of rosés.
“Rosé season is well and truly here now, and there are plenty of options around,”; he says. “One of the things that has stood out recently was the quality of the rosé selection in Lidl.
“And they’re all pretty affordable too.”;
Andy shared his top five rosé picks currently shelved in the supermarket, most of which you can pick up for less than a tenner.
1. Hacienda Uvanis Garnacha
Lidl’s brand new Hacienda Uvanis Garnacha is very much on Andy’s radar. Better yet, it’ll set you back just £6.99 per bottle.
Made in Navarra in , the area is famous for its dry rosés made from the quality Garnacha grape.
Lidl bosses dubbed it “a must for lovers of dry rosé”; and perfect for pairing with summer salads or opening as part of a .
“The Hacienda Uvanis has just hit the shelves as part of Lidl’s May Wine Tour,”; Andy says.
“It’s dry, Spanish and made from Grenache, which is one of the key ingredients of provence rosé. It’s a great choice for £6.99.”;
2. Müller Rosé
Also part of Lidl’s May Wine Tour and recommended by Andy is the Müller Rosé, which will set you back £7.49 a bottle.
It is deliciously dry, and filled with crisp flavours of pear and redcurrant.
The grapes for Müller Rosé are found in Niederösterreich, the largest wine region in Austria, situated in the northeastern part of the country.
Lidl bosses described it as “bone-dry”; and recommended pairing it with garlic prawns or salmon pâté.
Wine expert Andy weighed in that it is a triple threat: light, fruity and dry.
3. Ventoux Rosé
From Lidl’s core range, Andy recommended the Ventoux Rosé, which will set you back a mere £5.49 per bottle.
It is typically priced at £6.99, but currently on offer to Lidl Plus members at the reduced rate.
Andy dubbed it a “great option”; for the upcoming warmer months.
It is from the Southern Rhône, a wine region in Southern France known for its rich and fruity wines, including both red and white styles.
As such, Lidl also has the white wine version, Ventoux Blanc, as part of its Lidl Plus promotion.
4. Exquise Grenache Rosé
Vino buff Andy’s number one recommendation from Lidl’s current rosé line-up is the Exquise Grenache Rosé.
“I’m a big fan of this Exquise Grenache Rosé,”; he tells. “It has been around for a while.
“It’s a great provence style and is only £7.49.”;
The prestigious bottle has aromatic tasting notes with fresh and ripe fruit weaved in – very similar to the fine floral and fruity character of the viral £22 Whispering Angel rosé.
That means getting your fruity fix at Lidl can save you a cool £14.51.
5. Monalie Côtes de Provence Rosé
For those with a more refined palette, the Lidl’s luxury offering of Monalie Côtes de Provence Rosé is a good choice.
That being said, it is slightly more expensive than Andy’s other recommendations at £9.99
“If you want to upgrade, it’s worth spending the extra to get this provence rosé,”; he says.
