Kano police raid hideout, foil kidnapping of 75-year-old man

The Kano State Police Command has foiled a kidnapping operation with the successful rescue of a 75-year-old victim and the arrest of a suspected kidnapper during a raid on a hideout in Bagau Town, Bebeji Local Government Area of the state.

The operation, which took place on May 9, 2025, followed what the police described as “foolproof intelligence”;; about the location of the kidnappers.

According to the police, tactical teams led by the Officer in charge of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad stormed the hideout and found the victim, Abdulrahman Yunusa, bound and blindfolded.

“One Musa Tukur, a 23-year-old male from Kudan Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was arrested at the scene,”;; said SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer in a statement on Monday.

“He was guarding the kidnapped victim, who was discovered with his eyes covered with fabric and some body parts tied with rope.”;;

The police said the victim had been abducted from his residence in Maigana, Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State on May 3, 2025, around 12:30 p.m.

The suspect confessed to conspiring with others to kidnap the elderly man and demand a ransom of twenty million naira (₦20,000,000).

“The victim was rushed to the hospital for medical attention. He has since been treated, discharged, and reunited with his family,”;; the police spokesperson added.

Reacting to the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the officers involved and thanked the public for providing credible information.

“This success demonstrates our commitment to combating violent crime in Kano State. We appreciate the trust and support of the communities, and we urge residents to continue sharing useful information,”;; he added.
