The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has explained the type of drones being used by terrorists in the country.
According to him, bandits and Boko Haram only used small regular drones and are not in possession of any sophisticated ones.
The Minister said this when he fielded questions from journalists at the seventh edition of the 2025 ministerial press briefing at the national press centre, Abuja on Wednesday
According to Abubakar, the terrorists use “Civilian drones, they just tie bombs to them, improvise, move and just drop. It is not sophisticated drones. It is not armed drone that has strategic guidance.
“That is what we saw so far. And we are building up our intelligence, and that is why we have arrested so many armed traffickers, and that is why we are also monitoring ​with the National Security Advisor, the use of civilian drones now.
“Because if you see the videos, it’s all small, normal drones that you media use, but with same capacity that they will put one kg or two kg of bombs.
“That is what they have now, but we are doubling our intelligence, both internationally and nationally and almost our partners, local partners, to make sure we track the source.”;
