Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has suspended one of his political aides, Ibrahim Rabi’u, over what has been described as “unguarded and inflammatory statements”;; concerning the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s alleged defection.

DAILY POST reports that Rabi’u, who serves as a Senior Special Reporter attached to the Ministry of Transportation, was suspended with immediate effect after the order issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim.

In a by the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the aide’s comments did not reflect the position of the government and were made without authorisation.

“The government has distanced itself from the purported claim, describing the statement authored by the suspended aide as solely coming from the author for reasons best known to him,”;; the statement read.

The suspended aide is also expected to respond to a query regarding the statement, which stirred controversy across political circles in the state.

The governor, through his spokesperson, warned all political appointees, cautioning them against making unauthorised public comments, especially on matters of political sensitivity.

“The government cautions all political appointees against unauthorized comments, especially outside their jurisdiction. Any political appointee must get clearance before making public comments on issues that have to do with the position of the government on matters of public importance or of sensitive political decisions,”;; Bature added.

He emphasized that only the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Garba Wayya, is authorised to speak on behalf of the Kano State Government, while he, Bature, remains the official spokesperson for the Governor.
