Former Arsenal star, Alex Iwobi, has revealed why he left the club in 2019, adding that he does not regret the decision.

He, however, said that leaving the Emirates Stadium in August 2019 was unexpected.

The Nigeria International said he left because he was told that Arsenal needed to sell a player to raise their profit following the signing of Nicolas Pepe for £72 million.

Speaking with Inside Scoop, the former Everton, man said he was on holiday with his family when his agent called to inform him about Everton’s bid.

The Nigeria International said he was skeptical about leaving the Gunners until he was informed that the management wanted to sell him in order to raise profit.

Iwobi said the then Everton manager, Marco Silva, convinced him to joined the Toffees by making promises to him.

The midfielder said he had told his agent, “It’s nice to know they [Everton] want me, what do you think?’ I [said], I don’t know, I’m 50/50, then my agent said, ‘Alex, Arsenal have already handed in the medical’, they[Arsenal]might want you gone because they need to sell someone.

“It was mad, I was like, Arsenal want to let go of me, I guess it’s time for a new challenge.”;;

Iwobi, a product of Arsenal academy, made 149 appearances for the Gunners’ senior team, scoring 15 goals and providing 23 assists.
