EPL: Arteta explains why Arsenal lost 2-1 to Bournemouth

Published on May 03, 2025 at 07:58 PM

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has lamented his side’s failure to convert their chances, following a 2–1 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday.

Declan Rice had put the Gunners ahead in the first half, but goals from Dean Huijsen and Evanilson secured all three points for the Cherries.

“We had so many big spaces and big opportunities to score, but we didn’t,”; Arteta said, speaking to Premier League Productions.

“When you concede goals from set pieces, it’s very difficult to earn the three points.”;

Asked why Bournemouth emerged victorious, Arteta added: “Because we don’t finish the actions, and you give so many simple balls away.

“They (Bournemouth) run, and in transition, they are really good. When we had them, we didn’t kill them. We gave them hope.

“We lost points against Crystal Palace and Fulham (because of set pieces). It’s something we need to improve.”;
