EPL: Arsenal’s second spot in jeopardy after 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth

Published on May 03, 2025 at 07:33 PM

Arsenal are steadily losing their grip on second place in the Premier League table following a 2–1 defeat to Bournemouth in Saturday’s late kick-off.

Having already conceded the title to Liverpool, the Gunners are now aiming to finish as runners-up for a third consecutive season.

They took an early lead against the Cherries when Martin Ødegaard played in Declan Rice, who rounded the goalkeeper to slot home.

However, after squandering several chances to extend their advantage, Arsenal allowed Bournemouth back into the game.

Antoine Semenyo was introduced from the bench and launched a long throw-in, which was headed beyond David Raya by Dean Huijsen to draw the visitors level.

Evanilson then bundled in what proved to be the winning goal in the 75th minute, sealing a memorable victory for Bournemouth.

The result leaves Mikel Arteta’s side on 67 points, just three ahead of third-placed Manchester City, who secured a 1–0 win over Wolves on Friday.
