EPL: Amorim reportedly almost resigned as Man Utd manager

Published on May 20, 2025 at 08:04 AM

Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, had to be talked out of resigning from the role in January, just two months after his arrival, according to ESPN.

Amorim arrived at Old Trafford to replace Erik ten Hag in November 2024.

Amid big expectations, the 40-year-old only managed to win one match in his opening eight.

Following a 3-1 home defeat to Brighton, Amorim was ready to walk away and had to be “talked out of the idea by associates”;;.

Although he remained with the Red Devils, there has been almost no improvement, as the team has a record of 13 defeats in 25 Premier League games leaving Amorim “really embarrassed”;;.

He has, however, guided United through to the Europa League final where they will face Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

A win will see them finish the campaign with silverware and Champions League qualification.

But after mulling over his options in the new year, Amorim “had to be reassured by senior figures at the club, including CEO Omar Berrada, that he would be backed to turn the team’s fortunes around”;;.
