Employ more workers, equip your civil service – NLC tells Adamawa Govt

Published on May 01, 2025 at 01:41 PM

The Adamawa State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has challenged the state government to employ more workers and provide tools for them.

The state NLC Chairman, Emmanuel Fashe made the demand on Thursday at the Mahmud Ribadu Square, Yola, during an event held to mark this year’s Labour Day.

He stressed that the state’s civil service was both overstretched and ill-equiped, and urged the government to address the issues.

The NLC chairman complained of other sundary issues, including need to review pension paid to retired civil servants in view of persistent inflation.

Responding to the demand, the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta who represented Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, noted that the government had started moves to employ more workers.

“We are mindful of the depletion of the civil service as a result of massive retirement of workers who have reached the time for retirement,”; the deputy governor said, adding that government has since lifted embargo on employment and the state Civil Service Commission has opened a portal to recruit qualified graduates to fill the critical vacancies.

She said the government was committed to not only filling available vacancies but also providing tools for all civil servants to do their work.

DAILY POST reports that the Adamawa State Civil Service Commission opened a portal on Monday, April 28, 2025 marking the commencement of the recruitment process
