Defection: I never contemplated joining APC – Enugu lawmaker, Ogara

Published on May 13, 2025 at 04:43 PM

A member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon Harrison Ogara, on Tuesday, refuted reports of his planned defection to the All Progressives Congress, (APC).

Ogara described the rumour as lies from the pit of hell.

Social media has been busy with claims that the Labour Party lawmaker will formally join the APC on Saturday.

However, Ogara, representing Igbo-Eze South Constituency, told journalists that he was equally shocked to read the post on social media platforms.

He said at no point did he plan any defection, let alone to the APC, a party he said had different ideologies with his.

Ogara said, “I don’t know where they got the information; I feel so embarrassed. I had to go and search for it, look at the details of, but I discovered it’s been done by APC e-rats.

“I just think people want to pre-empt and see what I will say. But I want to say it clearly that I am still in the Labour Party and my confidence is that the Labour Party will still be there any day any time.

“Why should I defect to APC? That is the first question. You must have a reason for defecting to any party.

“If I see what APC is doing and it is to the detriment of the people, it shows that their ideologies don’t align with mine, so I have no reason to do that.”;;

He also ruled out defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).

“Some were saying PDP, and I asked, why PDP? PDP rejected me ab-initio and I found a place where they said come and contest, I contested and won. Why should I leave the place? It will amount to moral bankruptcy to abandon the party that made you what you are.

“Assuming that your house is not well-built, you stay put and rebuild your house, not to go to other people’s houses, those who appear to have put their house in order.

“It is a lie from the pit of hell; I have no reason to move; I have integrity for myself.

“Why they are moving from one party to the other is not the other party is performing, it is the fear that elections will be rigged; so, you want to go and join them to write results, where is the morality in you?”;; He questioned.

The lawmaker, however, said if the crisis in the Labour Party becomes intractable and movement becomes inevitable “Mr Peter Obi is our leader, wherever he goes, I go.”;;
