The Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Prince Maxwell Ogiri, has announced the immediate suspension of all wheelbarrow pusher operations within the Otukpo Main Market.
The directive, issued on Monday, follows a tragic incident last week involving the death of a man during a confrontation reportedly linked to some wheelbarrow pushers.
The incident has heightened tensions within the market and surrounding parts of Otukpo town.
Ogiri, said the suspension will remain in force until a thorough profiling of all individuals operating as wheelbarrow pushers is conducted.
“Only those verified and granted operational permits by both the Otukpo Local Government Council and the Nigeria Police Force will be allowed to return to business,”;; he said in a statement.
Reiterating his administration’s dedication to maintaining peace, order, and security across the LGA, the Chairman warned that any defiance of the directive would attract serious legal consequences.
