Arrest kidnappers same way you go after Yahoo boys – Idam to EFCC

Published on May 01, 2025 at 04:10 PM

Activist lawyer, Madubuachi Idam, has charged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to go after kidnappers because it’s an economic and financial crime.

Idam said the same way EFCC arrest advance free fraudsters also known as Yahoo Boys, the commission should apprehend kidnappers.

In a statement he issued, the activist lawyer insisted that selective criminal justice system in Nigeria must stop.

He charged the anti-graft agency not to focus on “cosmetic crime like naira abuse”; alone but go after kidnappers.

This comes as the EFCC had arrested Lagos socialite, Emeka Okonkwo aka E-Money for dollar and naira abuse.

After interrogation, the anti-graft agency released the businessman.

Idam said: “Kidnapping is an economic and financial crime. The aim of the actors in the field is for economic reason.

“Why is EFCC not after kidnappers?Whatever y@hoo boys represent is not different from what kidnappers stands for. If the EFCC must exercise jurisdiction over y@hoo boys, it is also expected that it should as well go after kidnappers.

“Selective criminal justice system has to stop. Every crime that is intended to satisfy an economic desire or financial need is within the purview of the EFCC.

“So, the Commission has to get down against real life challenging financial crimes and not just cosmetic crimes like Naira Abuse and such others.

“Nevertheless, this is not an excuse for y@hoo y@hoo. As much as I commend the commission for their effort against y@hoo boys, the same way I expect it to channel equal energy against Kidnapping.”;
