I let AI choose my summer glow up, a change made such a difference but another made me look like an 80s rollerskater

IT SEEMS we’ve all gotten used to asking AI to help us out – from getting the time from Siri, planning a holiday, and even giving us a makeover.

With my 30th around the corner and a handful of to attend, I want to make sure I look my best.

But when you’re stuck doing the same routine day in and day out, it can be hard to decipher what looks work for you.

But now allows you to put a picture into their system and give you pointers, I decided to give it a go.

I sent an image of myself with my usual and and asked it to give me some tips for a summer .

It took a few goes to get the algorithm to understand what I wanted, but after just a few minutes, it came up with the ultimate makeover list.

The AI system was happy to tell me what I had already nailed (sculpted brows) and what I wasn’t doing so well with (dull skin, thank you).

Here’s a full list of Chatgpt’s recommendations

  • Hair: Slight caramel or honey highlights, loose beach waves.
  • Skin: Brighter, glowy complexion with a natural, dewy finish.
  • Makeup: Soft bronze eyeshadow, subtle winged liner, rosy cream blush, and a peachy lip gloss.
  • Style Touches: Light summery outfit color, maybe with a gold earring or necklace accent.

I decided to take on the advice fully and gave myself a total transformation, and here are the results.

Hair

The AI bot recommended I add some lighter and warmer tones to my , which is already pretty ginger and to add some loose waves.

I begrudgingly curled my hair before brushing it out for a softer look and I have to say, it did make my hair look fuller and suited my round face shape.

While I hate taking the time to curl my hair, this will be something I’ll add to my routine for special occasions.

Skin

I felt personally attacked by its description of my dull skin that needed a bit more glow (I just got off a long-haul flight, okay?!), but couldn’t agree more with the bot.

Instead of slapping some moisturiser on and being done with it, I took my time using a toner to help close my pores and brighten the skin before going in with a face moisturiser and an eye cream.

Not only did my skin feel so much more hydrated, but it also made applying my makeup much easier and gave it a better finish without clinging to dry skin.

Make-up

Now, I am no expert when it comes to make-up, so this was the step I was most concerned about.

I rarely experiment with my make-up routine and often feel like I look like a kid who got into their mum’s makeup bag when I do try, but I was willing to give it a go.

It suggested a more dewy base than what I’m used to, so I went in with a simple tinted moisturiser and light-weight concealer around the eyes and to cover any blemishes.

Instead of using powder all over the face, I concentrated it on my T-zone and under my eyes to keep a dewy finish to the skin.

Once the base was practically done, I went in with a cream blusher in a rosey colour as instructed as well as a little highlighter along the cheekbones, cupid brow and the arch of my eyebrows.

I have to say, looking in the mirror, the blush and highlighter seemed to make a massive difference, and gave my cheekbones a little more definition to make my face look less puffy.

It also suggested I add some bronze eyeshadow to the eyes and add a winged liner.

While I usually add a small amount of eyeliner, I tend to skip eyeshadow out of laziness but found it made my eyes more of a focal point without looking too heavy.

Last but not least, it was time for lippy, a step I notoriously skip as I hate the feel of it.

They recommend a glossy coral/pink hue that I wasn’t a fan of.

I already know coral isn’t my shade so I opted for a light, slightly warm pink and was still unimpressed with its recommendation.

The bright colour was too much of a contrast for me, and the gloss only made it more apparent leaving me looking like an 80s rollerskater.

Accessories

Last but not least were accessories, something I tend to keep to a minimum.

Fortunately, Chat GPT had correctly guessed my choice of metal (gold), so I chucked in a pair of small gold hoops to finish the look.

Final Verdict

I’m actually rather impressed with the glow-up Chatgpt made for me, the hair added a little extra to my look while the dewy skin was perfect for summer.

The addition of highlighter gave my face some much-needed definition and the bronze shadow was easy to apply and accentuated the colour of my eyes.

While I will skip the lippy recommendation and go for a more rosy hue, the overall makeup was a nice step up to my usual routine without looking too dramatic – perfect for summer.
