Fanned by strong winds and the highly flammable materials used in many stilt houses, the fire spread uncontrollably from one structure to the next.

Dramatic aerial footage circulating online shows the scale of the disaster as rooftops were consumed by fire and buildings collapsed amid a glowing orange inferno.

Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by around 2am on Wednesday, but not before vast sections of the community were reduced to ashes.

The affected area is home to an estimated 5,000 people.

Despite the severity of the incident, no fatalities are reported in initial assessments.

Hundreds of families are evacuated to temporary shelters as emergency response and relief operations begin.

Bangsamoro Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua orders the immediate delivery of assistance, including food, water, tents, medical supplies and security support.

The Bangsamoro Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence (READi) and the Ministry of Social Services and Development are coordinating with local authorities and Tawi-Tawi Governor Yshmael Sali to provide aid.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with early reports indicating it may have started in a residential structure.

Residents described chaotic scenes as the fire spreads, with families fleeing their homes carrying only what they can salvage.

β€œIt’s heartbreaking – everything we built is gone,” one evacuee says.
