Before the World Cup, had scored six times in 48 appearances so he has doubled that tally in six matches here and picked up four player-of-the-match awards.

Kane, speaking to Sport, said: “I said earlier in the tournament, from when we met up in Florida, that he just had this bit between the teeth, this grit, this determination.

“Maybe because of a lot of the noise that surrounded him coming into the tournament. But I could see it, I could see it in training. The way he was physically, mentally, the drive, the desire.

“And he’s just taken that straight into the tournament. He’s the man who loves the big occasion, who wants the ball. He wants to be the goalscorer, wants to be the defender, wants to be the game changer.

“And he’s shown that so often and so far.

“So yes, what a special player to play with, a special player to have in the national team. You know about these moments about being excited.”

Kane also had no problem with manager being critical of the team after the 2-1 win over in the quarter-finals.

He added: “It’s understandable that the boss has the right to have a feeling on the performance.

“He sees the way we train, he sees the way we play, and he wants to kind of bring that to life on the pitch. But as players, it’s not always possible.

“And you know, in that situation, especially with the heat, the humidity coming off the back of , all these things have an impact on World Cup games.

“What is unique is having to do it for six weeks and going through this, going through that. All this adds up. I think we’re the first to know when we’ve played well and not played so well.

“The one thing I would say is we need to appreciate and celebrate more when we get through these moments because we’ve got no right not to celebrate winning a quarter-final against a really good team and reaching another semi-final in this eight year period.”
