HARRY KANE is thrilled that he will rewrite football history when he faces Argentina in the World Cup semi-finals.

The Three Lions captain will win his 121st cap, moving clear of , to become this country’s most capped outfield player. He will be just four short of the record holder, goalkeeper Peter Shilton.

Kane said: “Another special one. The most capped outfield player. It’s so hard to process all this.

“I think in the tournament. I have gone past some big names. It started with Beckham at 115 and now going past Wazza at 120. legends.

“I will probably be retired until I fully appreciate I’m amongst those names. But it’s totally the last thing on my mind going into these games because it’s all about the team. It’s all about getting into that final.”

Kane revealed that Beckham’s winning penalty in the 1-0 win over at the 2002 World Cup is a stand-out England memory.

Beckham scored four years after he was sent off against Argentina in the last 16.

Speaking to Sport, Kane said: “Red kit, yellow armband. And we all knew what Beckham went through previously against Argentina and this was a kind of redemption story, scoring that penalty and there was that celebration, pulling his shirt.

“That’s one of my my favourite England memories. Even if you’d have asked me before playing Argentina, I think that was always one of my favourite memories, Beckham being a big idol of mine.”

Relishing the prospect of facing Argentina, he said: “What an occasion, to play one of the best teams.

“The reigning world champions in a semi-final of the World Cup. In these moments, I think back to being a kid and having dreams and what it would be like to play in these games.

“This is as big as it gets. So I’m really excited for this week. I think it’s going to be a special game. And yes what a tough, tough team to play against. Hopefully, that brings the best out in us.”
