Go beyond visit to Benue, take decisive action against killers – Taraba CAN to Tinubu

The Taraba State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has commended President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to Benue, saying the visit must translate into real action.

In a statement issued to Journalists, on Friday in Jalingo, the state chairman of CAN, Rev. Fr Williams Awoshiri, lamented the persistent violence that has continued to claim the lives of innocent Nigerians, including women, children, and the elderly.

It said the continued massacre of defenceless Nigerians is a tragic stain on the conscience of our nation and an indictment on those charged with the responsibility of safeguarding lives.

CAN aske the president to ensure that the visit is followed by action.

“It must go beyond a ceremonial show of concern. What Nigerians desperately need at this moment is tangible, decisive, and sustained action to bring an end to these acts of terror,”; the statement read.

The Christian body urged the President, security chiefs, and all relevant authorities to take urgent and concrete steps to stop the bloodshed.

“The killers terrorising our communities are not greater than the collective strength, intelligence, and resources of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”;

“Silence, inaction, or lip service is no longer acceptable. The blood of the innocent cries out, and history will remember where each of us stood in these perilous times,”; CAN cautioned.

Expressing solidarity with the government and people of Benue State, the association offered prayers for the bereaved families and quick recovery for the injured.

“We pray for divine comfort for the bereaved families and quick recovery for the wounded. Enough is enough,”; Awoshiri declared.
