But it could have got even worse for England when Konsa, 28, appeared to bring down Prince Adu.
The Ghanaian striker was bearing down on goal when the Aston Villa centre-back, fresh from last month, lunged into a challenge from behind.
Replays showed Konsa had caught Adu on the knee without making contact with the ball.
And fans raced onto social media to question why referee Said Martinez was not sent to the screen for another look by VAR Armando Villarreal.
One said: “ was definitely very fortunate, very strange that it wasn’t referred.”
Another added: “How did Konsa get away with that? He flies in and gets absolutely nowhere near the ball. Crazy.”
A third chimed in: “They should’ve got a penalty from that stupid challenge Konsa did, and could’ve ended up in a red.”
A fourth claimed: “That Konsa challenge is a stonewall penalty.”

Former Premier League assistant referee also claimed Ghana should have been awarded a spot-kick.
He told BBC Sport: “We had our hearts in our mouths when we saw Ezri Konsa make that challenge.
“First and foremost, as an fan, I’m absolutely delighted that it wasn’t given.
“But I have to be honest, for me, this should have been referred to the referee.
“Konsa makes no contact at all with the ball. He brings down his opponent. He’s airborne. He’s out of control.
“He makes contact with the attacker and no contact with the ball. For me, this is a penalty kick.
“We’ve had seven penalties in this World Cup so far. I’m very glad that wasn’t an eighth.”
Djed Spence appeared to with former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey before the clash with Ghana.
Footage captured the full-back walking past the Ghanaian, who has been charged with seven counts of rape and one count of sexual assault relating to alleged incidents in London between 2020 and 2022.
Spence was also singled out by England chief Thomas Tuchel for during the first half hydration break.
