GERWYN PRICE has thrown a cat amongst the pigeons by declaring his World Cup of Darts withdrawal is NOT due to health reasons.

The Welshman, 41, admitted he was “not in a great place health-wise” after being trounced by Jonny Clayton when Premier League Darts landed in Leeds last week.

Price also hinted on that he is waiting to receive results from the hospital.

So most assumed that health woes were behind his – a tournament he has won twice with Clayton by his side.

But Price has sparked more confusion by stating that he pulled out for a different, unspecified reason.

He wrote on his Instagram story : “Just to clarify I have NOT withdrawn from the World Cup because of health reasons.”

And that has set tongues wagging about what could be his true motive.

Recent competitions have been a grind for the Iceman, who said last week: “I am battling on and searching for some results.

“Hopefully in the next couple of weeks they will come and they will put me at ease. Then I will be able to enjoy darts again.

“The crowd has got me through a lot of games but sometimes things happen you can’t control.”

Price will be replaced in his nation’s two-man line-up by the next highest ranked Welsh player, Nick Kenny.

But with former world champion Price out of the equation, have dropped out of the seeded places and the Scottish pair of Gary Anderson and have jumped up to fourth.

The English duo of and go in as the red-hot favourites.
