He might have earned even more caps were it not for the immense talent ahead of him in the pecking order.
Barry played alongside the likes of , and as part of ‘s Golden Generation.
But as fans can painfully remember, despite the incredible talent at disposal the national team were chronic underperformers at major tournaments.
And as part of those dressing rooms, Barry has a first-hand account for why that squad failed to deliver – and what the current squad under does have.
Speaking to Lyllo Casino , Barry said: “This England squad is different to the ones I played in, 100 per cent.
“It feels like there is more togetherness now. It’s easy to celebrate a win, but even before the games and in training, the noises coming out of the camp have been positive.

“It’s going to be all about the squad, and he has picked players who bring that togetherness. At the moment, it’s working really well.
“You can see it from the substitutes, they are warming up and desperate for the lads, giving them advice on the sidelines.
“During any little break, they come together as a unit, and it’s great to watch as an England fan.”

Barry also believes Tuchel has been getting the crucial decisions right at this World Cup.
He added: “Thomas Tuchel came in with that reputation for being tactically very good.
“Maybe the pressure is off him slightly because he isn’t English. If we were to go out of the tournament, he could leave England and forget about it for the rest of his life if that’s what he wanted to do.
“But we’ve had other managers like Fabio Capello and Sven who are still spoken about years later so he will be aware of what is at stake.
“He has to make the big calls. I’ve always said a sign of a good manager is making substitutions and tactical tweaks at the right time, both during and before games. At the minute, he is getting them exactly right.”
