Rivers State elder, Sarah Igbe, has described the judiciary and the National Assembly as appendages of the executive arm of government, saying they no longer perform their constitutional duties effectively.

Igbe made the remark on Friday while speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today programme.

According to him, the judiciary is “sleeping on duty,” while the National Assembly has equally become subservient to the presidency.

He argued that there was no need for Governor Siminalayi Fubara to probe the sole administrator, Ibas, since statutory institutions such as the EFCC, ICPC and the National Assembly are constitutionally empowered to carry out investigations.

“The governor should concern himself with peace building and development across the state, rather than disturbing himself with probes,” Igbe said.

He, however, expressed fears that even if anti-graft agencies investigated and forwarded cases to the judiciary, the process would amount to nothing.

“My fear is that even if they investigate and send it to the judiciary, it will still come back to square one.

“But if they want to investigate, let them investigate, and let’s see what the judiciary will become,” he stated.
