The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has refuted an online statement made by human rights activist Mr. Okoye Chuka Peter from the Centre for Human Rights Advocacy and Wholesome Society (CEHRAWS) titled, "FRSC’s Ubakala Mobile Court: Where Justice is Missing but Fines are Not."

FRSC also denied allegations of imposing arbitrary fines on offenders or acting beyond its constitutional authority.

A statement issued by J.K. Igbonekwu, the Sector Public Education Officer of the Abia State Sector Command, labeled the report as a baseless and false accusation against the FRSC.

The statement characterized the report as a deliberate effort to damage the reputation of the Corps and undermine its constitutionally supported and legally established Mobile Court operating in Ubakala, Abia State.

FRSC clarified that every case presented at the Ubakala Mobile Court adhered to proper legal procedures, where offenders were informed of their rights, had their charges clearly articulated, and were given the opportunity to present their case before any decisions were made.

The Corps dismissed claims that the Mobile Court in Ubakala was exclusively staffed by FRSC personnel, stating that it is legally constituted with a Presiding Magistrate appointed by the Abia State judiciary, a Court Clerk, a prosecuting legal officer representing the Corps, FRSC law enforcement officers, Marshalls, and Police officers to maintain order.

FRSC expressed concern that the public might be misled and that significant progress made in road safety enforcement throughout the nation could be undermined by the publication. They insisted that there is video evidence, including attendance logs, judicial records, and video documentation that contradicts these allegations.

The Corps announced that it would consider legal action to address the publication and its sponsors.

What is the FRSC's response to the allegations made by Mr. Okoye Chuka Peter?

The FRSC has denied the allegations, describing them as baseless and an attempt to tarnish its image. They clarified that all legal procedures were followed during court sessions.

Is the Ubakala Mobile Court operated solely by the FRSC?

No, the Ubakala Mobile Court is comprised of a Presiding Magistrate, a Court Clerk, and other legal personnel, including FRSC officers and Police, to ensure order.

What evidence does the FRSC have to refute the claims made in the report?

The FRSC has video evidence, attendance logs, and judicial records that support their position and contradict the allegations made in the report.
