EPL: Steven Gerrard’s possible next move as Emery takes charge of Aston Villa

Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard was recently sacked as manager of Premier League club, Aston Villa.

Gerrard was dismissed following Aston Villa’s Premier League 3-0 defeat to Fulham in October.

The Englishman was replaced by Unai Emery, who will start as manager on Tuesday (November 1) after his work permit formalities are completed.

DAILY POST examines what is next for Gerrard after he was sacked by Aston Villa.

When asked if Aston Villa made the right decision by sacking Gerrard, Engr. Audu Ojo, the head coach of Dawaki Rangers FC, told DAILY POST that the Premier League club should have given the 42-year-old more time to remain at Villa Park.

Ojo said, “Well, I don’t think sacking Steven Gerrard is the right decision for the club at this stage of the competition. I think they took this decision in a hurry.

“We need to be patient in the way management sacks coaches. Most times, it does not help the club to focus. For me, Steven Gerrard should have been allowed to stay put in Aston Villa just the same way Arsenal coach [Mikel Arteta] was given a chance to exploit some of his knowledge in the game. At least allow him to stay till the January transfer window when he will have the opportunity to buy some few players.”

When asked if Gerrard, who had joined Aston Villa in 2021 following successful spells at Scottish giants Rangers, would take a break from coaching and wait to succeed Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp at Anfield in the near future or if he would jump at another opportunity to coach another Premier League club, Ojo added, “I don’t think so. I feel he will find a new coaching opportunity rather than waiting for Klopp to finish with Liverpool.”
