Liverpool's manager, Arne Slot, disclosed that Mohamed Salah was "not pleased" about being benched during their 2-0 victory against West Ham on Sunday.

Salah started the Premier League match on the bench at the London Stadium.

Slot made this bold choice in an effort to address a troubling stretch of form, which saw the Reds lose nine out of their last 12 matches.

Salah did not enter the game at all, as goals from Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo secured the win.

“It was a typical reaction from a player of his caliber,” Slot remarked.

“I mention this lightly, as he has been exceptional for this club and will continue to be. He was unhappy about not starting, but he wasn't the only one.”

Salah may return to the starting lineup when Liverpool faces Sunderland in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

The 33-year-old will be available for the next four matches before departing to join Egypt's squad for the African Cup of Nations.

“It's on December 15,” Slot confirmed.

“However, in such situations, both the player and the national team are involved, and discussions always revolve around what is best for all three parties.”
