It is almost impossible for some living in the New Forest village of Godshill, Hants, to binge , send email attachments or use basic online services.
Chartered accountant Kevin Moore, 68, said: “We’ve never got more than 25mbps and that always cuts out at 4pm.
“I have a man cave that only gets four or 5mbps.
“I would stream things, but it all just takes forever.”
After years of failed promises to hook up the village properly, a £16million Government-funded scheme announced in 2023 has now allegedly been dropped.
Many of the 500 residents in Godshill — which has a 12th century church and thatched cottages — are paying for direct satellite service, that costs from £40 a month, plus hundreds of pounds for the dish.
And with old copper phone wires being shut down across Britain next year, new digital fall alarms for the elderly may not work as many require online access.
Parish council vice-chairman Peter Woodward, 62, said: “The age profile of the village is quite old.
“A big concern with the elderly is with the copper wires being taken out, their fall alarms aren’t working.
“But without any internet, they’re being left without.”
