The Kano State Government has confirmed that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, will lead the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr Durbar.
The announcement, approved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, follows what the government described as credible intelligence indicating that some individuals may attempt to disrupt the Sallah celebrations.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, reiterated the government’s resolve to balance cultural preservation with public safety.
“The Kano State Government remains committed to preserving the rich cultural heritage of our people, particularly the revered Sallah Durbar,” the statement read.
“However, we will not compromise on the peace, security, and stability of the state.”
Providing details of the approved activities, the government stated that the Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) would be conducted by Emir Sanusi, beginning from the Kofar Mata Eid Ground through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, and terminating at Kofar Fatalwa within the emir’s palace.
It added that some traditional events would either be modified or suspended due to security concerns.
“Hawan Nasarawa will be held in a modified form without horseback displays, while Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi have been suspended for the time being in the interest of public safety,” the statement said.
The government further disclosed that all relevant security agencies had been placed on high alert to ensure full compliance with the directives.
“All security agencies have been directed to intensify surveillance and ensure strict compliance before, during, and after the Sallah celebrations,” Waiya stated.
Residents were also urged to support the efforts by maintaining calm and adhering to lawful conduct.
“We urge all residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies. Citizens are also advised to refrain from spreading unverified information that could incite panic or unrest,” the statement added.
Reassuring the public, the government expressed confidence in a peaceful celebration.
“We assure the good people of Kano State of our commitment to a peaceful and hitch-free Sallah celebration,” the statement concluded, while wishing Muslims across the state a joyous Eid-el-Fitr.
DAILY POST had reported that the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, Tuesday, hosted senior government officials for Iftar at his palace, followed by a private meeting with a delegation representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
