Veteran politician and respected elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, has distanced himself from any political group or party.
He revealed that his focus now prioritizes how to contribute ideas that will drive national development and unity.
Speaking during a media chat with journalists in Kano on Wednesday, the 98-year-old political guru made it clear that at this stage of his life, partisan politics is no longer his concern.
“I am not a member of any political group or organization. My interest is now centered on promoting ideas and initiatives that will move our country forward,”; he said.
Although he has distanced himself from active politics, his previous comments have carried support for the President Bola Tinubu administration, as he calls for a united Nigeria.
Alhaji Yakasai’s life has spanned the Nigeria’s post-independence political history.
He served as a commissioner in Kano State during the military administration of Audu Bako and later became the Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters to President Shehu Shagari in the Second Republic.
He was also among the founding members of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), a northern political and cultural group. Over the years, Yakasai has earned a reputation for his firm stance on democracy, equity, and good governance.
Despite stepping back from partisan roles, his voice continues to carry weight on national issues.
In one of his previous reflections titled “A message to those planning to rig elections,”; the nonagenarian warned against electoral malpractice and urged younger generations to uphold democratic ideals.
Yakasai’s journey from the days of Nigeria’s independence struggle to present-day realities paints the picture of a man who has seen it all â and now seeks only one thing â a better Nigeria.
