The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Cross River State, Innocent Tommy Etuk, has cautioned motorists — particularly commercial driver— to shun reckless driving and obey traffic regulations.

Etuk gave the warning during a sensitisation campaign in motor parks across the state ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations and increased travel activities.

He urged drivers to prioritise safety at all times, stressing that human life is irreplaceable.

“There is no supermarket where human life or body parts can be bought and replaced,” he said.

As part of the exercise, FRSC officials conducted alcohol tests on drivers before departure, warning that anyone found above the permissible limit would be barred from travelling.

“In such cases, passengers will be transferred to another vehicle to ensure their safety,” he added, noting that alcohol impairs judgment and heightens the risk of crashes.

The sector commander also warned against overloading, describing it as a major cause of road accidents, and disclosed that special patrol teams had been deployed to monitor compliance and apprehend violators.

He further urged passengers to take responsibility for their safety by discouraging dangerous driving and reporting erring drivers through designated emergency lines.

“Passengers must be alert. If a driver is overspeeding or driving dangerously, caution him or report appropriately,” he said.

A driver, Usen Bassey, said sustained sensitisation would help reduce accidents, but called on government to address poor road conditions.
