The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has transferred N104,091,162.46 to the Niger State Government.

The official handover occurred on Wednesday at the commission’s office in GRA, Ilorin, following the successful recovery of the funds from Kiara Rice Mills Limited, situated in Kpatsuwa Village, Mokwa Local Government Area.

According to a statement released by the EFCC in Ilorin on Thursday, the recovered amount reflects the company’s unremitted tax liabilities incurred between 2021 and 2024.

The commission reported that in February 2025, it received information indicating that the multi-billion-naira company had neglected to remit its full tax obligations while operating profitably, which is a clear violation of federal tax laws and Niger State revenue regulations.

Investigations conducted by the EFCC’s Foreign Exchange Malpractice Section, led by Assistant Commander Abubakar Koko, confirmed the violations and facilitated the complete recovery of the outstanding taxes.

During the handover, the EFCC Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, represented by the Ilorin Zonal Director, Ansalem Ozioko, reaffirmed the commission’s dedication to ensuring that public funds are properly accounted for and returned to their rightful owners.

“The role of the EFCC is to prevent, investigate, and prosecute economic and financial crimes, recover stolen assets, and return them to their legitimate owners. This is precisely what we are accomplishing here today,” Olukoyede stated.

He also emphasized the need for ongoing collaboration between the Niger State Government and the EFCC, highlighting the significance of transparency, accountability, and integrity in governance.

“We encourage you to continue partnering with the Commission and to serve as ambassadors of the EFCC by reporting any actions that compromise integrity,” he added.

Accepting the recovered funds on behalf of the Niger State Government, Alhaji Aminu Bawa, Group Head of Tax Operations at the Niger State Internal Revenue Service, praised the EFCC for its diligence and professionalism.

“On behalf of the Niger State Government, I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Commission for this impressive recovery effort. This development will have a direct and positive impact on the lives of our citizens,” Bawa remarked.

He confirmed that the recovered funds would be deposited into the state government’s account and allocated for developmental projects throughout Niger State.
